lots and lots has happened since the last time i posted. here's a little summary;
going north from Noosa.....
Fraser Island - 3 days
i camped out (yes, camped) on the world largest sand island with 9 other randoms. we spent the days driving around in a 4x4, swimming in lakes that were the most intense green and blue colours i have ever seen and looking off the coast for whales (i saw one, briefly!). at night we set up camp on the beach and drank into oblivion. its cliched, but the night sky was incredible, every star seem so much brighter than i've seen them before, probably becauase of the complete lack of man made light. the island is inhabited by potentially aggressive wild dogs called dingos, which made toilet visits in the night a bit scary.
Town of 1770 - 2 days
tiny, beautiful surfing town. went for a scooter ride and saw kangaroos.
Rockhampton - 1 day
beef capital of australia. also, hicksville, australia. has an amusing number of plastic models of bulls. also the best steak i have eaten. we missed the rodeo by one day dammit!
Airlie Beach & Whitsunday Islands - 2 days
went on a boat trip around the islands, the most beautiful nautral thing i have seen so far in this country. paradise.
Townsville - 2 days
big military town, curiously devoid of life, military or otherwise. perhaps they were all on holiday? took a day trip to magnetic island from here, beautiful.
Cairns - 5 days
backpacker central in the far north. had much cheap beer and fun nights out randomly bumping into people i knew from fraser, whitsundays and so on.
which brings me to...
Port Douglas - 3 weeks so far
small holiday resort town north of cairns. im working cleaning hotel rooms at an expensive hotel and stacking shelves at a shitty supermaket, which brings me back to my kwiksave days. im hating them both, but it's bareable as it'll porbably be the final time i work before returning home. port douglas seems to be a haven for big scary animals. ive seen 3 meter long snakes (dead, thankfully), face-sized spiders (sadly very much alive), crocodiles, bandicoots, geckos and a whole lot of brightly coloured birds. some crocs actually live in some lakes around the town and have been seen walking around at night, its quite insane. however, the most omnipresnet wildlife has to be the mosquitoes who just can't seem to get enough of my blood at the moment.... if i live to tell the tale i'll be jetting off to alice springs in a few weeks which is very exciting...i cant wait to get away from here! tinternet is flipping expensive so thats it for now...

Airfares are cheap... I need to book!!!!
Anyway sounds like you're having a kickass time up there (aside from cleaning hotel rooms), but seriously, toughen up boy, the wildlife isn't THAT bad. You survived Brisbane after all...
